Mazes of introspection
In the realm of introspection the unconscious mind becomes a captivating landscape to explore, shaping the contours of our thoughts and emotions in ways often beyond immediate awareness.
Beneath the surface of conscious thought, the unconscious is a cauldron of emotions, fears and thoughts that fuels our confusion, impacts our actions, our decisions and distorts the perception we have of the world and of ourselves.
Photographs, like dreams, are loaded with unconscious meaning. When we take a photo we bring unconscious aspects of ourselves to the outside, we project in it our history, our experiences, our inner thoughts. As early as the 1930s, the philosopher and critic Walter Benjamin proposed that the camera revealed something he called the optical unconscious. Like latent memories, details in photographs come into focus and become visible.
Benjamin describes them as “flashes.”
This photographic project delves into the symbiotic relationship between introspection and the unconscious mind, seeking to visually articulate its subtle interplay.
